A book found mysteriously in a library, student Ella makes the disastrous decision to read and unlock the fatal spirit of Cyrus into her life bringing terror and havoc. Will she save herself or will it be too late before the presence gets to close.
The book is a simple but intriguing film, demonstrating activities from the unknown spirit world coming alive and being unleashed through an odd looking book. A. stylish and phenomenal story, the kind of film you wish you didn’t take your girlfriend to watch on a date. Insinuating strangeness in this unusual film is a book which brings a poltergeist to the life on a mission to haunt and terrify a young girl. Enormous skill has been put into the craftsmanship of this film. Although there is no way for this short film to be explained its suspense and lack of clarity keeps the audience wishing for a part two of this horror motion picture.
Just an ordinary school girl, Ella commits herself to the library in hope of successfully revising for her exams, having come across a strange looking book of which she decides to investigate. She comes across curses of which the book is consumed with, having made the mistake to read the curse she automatically disturbs a spirit trapped for decades, of which she doesn’t know will continue to follow her until she is laid to rest.
Thompson’s directory debut shows his execution of the storyline done superbly for the production, inspired by films such as Possessed and The Ring. Thompson’s clear effort to demonstrate the unkindness of hunting deadly spirits is done to an acceptable standard, having some comical effect on the audience as some bits are scary as well as funny. Some characters are realistic, whereas others such as the unidentified spirit which descends from the book, appears to be very creative.
You’ll never feel the need to do quiet study alone in the library again, as in these short five minutes your eyes will be opened up to the hidden spirit world and the deviousness of the consequences in which ancient curses release .The events of the film are ones to remember as they don’t occur in everyday life.
The Book is one not to miss this summer, there are probably a good half-dozen real scares in the movie, and if I have one complaint it’s that overall it feels like an interesting journey that doesn’t end up anywhere… interesting. Most of the film goes by before it really kicks into gear, and then it’s over pretty quickly. In the end, it makes you nervous and scares you, and what more can you ask from a horror movie? Too bad that it really leaves you wanting more when the credits start to roll.
Overall this film has earned 4 stars, for its dramatic elements as well as its irony that engages the audience and creates anxiousness and animosity for the target audience as they try to speculate what will happen next.
