The Pitch

As a production we decided to create a supernatural horror movie, about a young lady cursed by a mysterious book and becomes possessed by an awoken spirit. We chose our main target audience to be the main cinema demographic which is 15-24 year olds main and female. We chose this target audience because it is the typical horror movie age group and most young people enjoy horror movies. For our movie poster we had an idea to create a face half of the spirits and half of the young lady’s faces on the background of the book cover to show that the character and spirit have a strange connection with each other. We also include normal movie poster elements such as the cast and crew list at the bottom of the page, age certificate, the title which would be ‘The Book’ and the names of the actors starring in the movie.

The narrative structure of follows Todorovs narrative with equilibrium of when the girl is just casually studying, then a disruption occurs when she gets a bad dream of the spirit attacking her in her dream and the new does not really occur at the end of the movie because we just see her possessed by the spirit and there is no new resolution.

The key representational issues of age are shown through the characters costumes and make-up it will be very youthful and in fashion with the current trends in female fashion. The ethnicity will show an all-black cast but we do not use the typical movie convention of the black characters die first to show a different take on the movie genre.


For the camera we will be using a variety of camera shots from long stots, over the shoulder shots, close ups and medium shots. Also during filming we will be using a focus ball to make front and back images stand out.


In editing straight cuts will be used to keep the flow of continuity, but also fades and disolves transition between scenes also jump cuts will be used for out more scary moments.
